Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
From here on, the inner crotch lining will be referred to as the white lining. You may also use the same fabric for the inner and outer crotch piece. Refer to the panties sew along if using the same fabric for the lining and main crotch gusset pattern piece.
Step 9: Line up right side of white lining to wrong side of back.
Step 10: Pin
Step 11: Line up right side of outer lining to right side of back. You are making a fabric sandwich with the back of the panties in the middle of the two crotch pieces.
-All pinned
-Your fabric should now look like this.
Step 12: Sew back crotch seam using a serger or a zig-zag stitch on your sewing machine. Make sure to remove the pins rather than try to sew over them!
-Sewn
The secret to all great knit pieces is using your iron!
Step 13: Carefully iron the crotch seam on both sides.
Step 14: Line up the right side of your white lining to the wrong side of the front.
-Pinned
Things are about to get tricky! Have no fear! We will get there!!! Just pay careful attention.
Step 15: You should be able to see how the fabric will look when the panties are finished. Fold the outer crotch piece so that you see a smooth seam (no raw edges).
Step 16: Holding your folded fabric sandwich, turn fabric so that the raw edges (cut edge of fabric) are exposed. Pin. Don't worry that your fabric is twisted. If you followed steps 15 and 16, your fabric will be going the correct way.
-Here is what your panties will look like:
Step 17: Sew the front crotch seam.
-Sewn
Step 18: Pull on the front and back pieces until all crotch seams are hidden.
Step 19: Carefully iron both sides.
Step 19B(for Hipsters): Iron 5/8" hem in place along both leg openings. Don't pin leg openings (crotch is show pinned just to keep those pieces together). You are just making a crease that will act as your guide later.
