Re: Design 35 Helmi shirt dress
Edited to add pics of my denim dress.
I did the topstitching with two threads through the needle, hot pink and red. I love the effect, as it gives the topstitching more emphasis, and the red and pink are fun together! I used large pink buttons, sewn on with red thread...not sure how I like the buttons yet (and I cheated and sewed them right on the pocket flap rather than working buttonholes).
On the back, I moved the pockets up a bit...it seemed like the pattern placement was really low. I also added length to the bottom of the skirt again.
The other thing I'm not completely happy with is the elastic at the bottom of teh puffed sleeves. Even with tons of steam, it's not pulling in the heavy demin very much. After my girls try it on, I might redo this part.
Thanks for looking!
This dress was quite an undertaking, as it has many pieces and lots of topstitching, but I love the way it turned out, despite the fact that the details are lost in the busy print (and I left out the belt carriers). This was my first try at an invisible zipper...I think I need to sew closer to the zipper next time, as you can see the zipper tape a bit (not so bad I'm going to redo it, though). The next one I make will be in denim with contrasting topstitching.
This is cut very short...I made the 128 and added about an inch of length to the bottom of the skirt...here it is on my 47" tall 5 year old. The fit is pretty good on her otherwise...it fits older dd a bit better, but she was in the shower when I took pics.
