Chalkboard/Art Folio Tutorial - in downloads

So this makes a folio that is 19"W and 12"H
You will need to cut the following pieces, a quilters cotton would work best:
    Outer fabric 19"Wx12"H---Cut 1
    Inner fabric 19"Wx12"H---Cut 1
Hvy Duty Fusible Interfacing 19"Wx12"H---Cut 1
    Webbing 12"Lx1"W---Cut 2 for handles
    Chalk Cloth 7"Wx10"H---Cut 1
Vinyl 9.25"Wx6"H on left side and 9"H on right side, you can cut a 9.25"Wx9"H rectangle and then mark 6" up on one side, connect the 9" top and the 6" mark, draw the diagonal and cut
    Cotton fabric for pocket 4"Hx9.25"W
Also, you'll want to make or buy extra wide double fold bias tape, close to three packages.

    Okay, now we'll begin:
1.Cut out your inner and outer fabrics and the piece of interfacing.
    2.Fuse interfacing to INNER fabric
3.Cut out straps, chalk cloth, vinyl pocket, and cotton pocket.

You will have these pieces cut out (minus the two small rectangles I have that are brown-I'll try to update this pic with my next one)

    4. Prep your chalk cloth BEFORE continuing (Use a piece of chalk, lay it on its side and rub up and down left to right. Then wipe it off and do it a second time. Wipe it off again.
    5. You'll be putting your chalk cloth on the right side of your inner fabric So measure 1" in from top and bottom right hand corners and make a little x with a pen that has water soluble ink. Measure over from those x's 7" and make two more little x's.

You're wanting to center the chalk cloth to the right side, hope this picture helps.

Once I had my x's I used spray glue on the back of my piece of chalk cloth and then stuck it in the middle of those four x's you just marked. I'm pretty sure you don't want to pin this stuff so if you don't have spray glue, go get some or just VERY carefully hold it in place.
6.Now, blanket or applique stitch the chalk cloth to the inner fabric (the right side) all the way around.

    Some stitch similar to this

    7. Now take some of that bias tape and sew it to the slant (top) of the vinyl pocket and the top of the cotton pocket.
    8. Layer the pockets with the vinyl first and the cotton pocket on top of that. Stitch from the bottom up right down the center to create two small pockets out of your cotton pocket.

Again, ignore my solid brown pocket, you don't want this. Also ignore my bias tape on the right side, yours should just be raw. I'll update with a better pic on my next one!

Here you can see that we're stitching to the top of the pocket. Ending and backstitching at our bias tape.

    9. Use that blanket/applique stitch again and start at the top of your vinyl pocket on the RIGHT side, the side closest to the middle. Blanket/applique stitch DOWN to the bottom and then pivot to the right. Now using a straight stitch baste around the bottom and then pivot again to the left side and go up basting all the way to the top of your vinyl pocket. You should be basting close like 1/4" or a tad less. You want to catch all three layers though. (Well, four including interfacing)
    10. Trim the edges even along the pocket sides (left and bottom)
    11. Spray glue, or pin (try not to pin your vinyl or the chalk cloth) inner and outer fabrics wrong sides together!
    12. If your outer ended up a touch bigger than your inner just trim it even without making it wonky. Your bias tape will cover uneveness as long as it's not more than 1/4" or so.
    13. Mark each side at 3" down from top & 3" up from the bottom with that water soluble pen again.

My fingers are touching my marks

14.Place the straps inside those marks and tack down.

This is the bottom strap and both ends of the strap need to be within those two marks.

Here I have them stitched down awaiting some bias tape.

    15. Starting NOT on a corner. I started at the top on the left side. Bias bind around all four sides. Voila! Done.

    Here it is bound

    Here's the front

Here it is full of stuff! I included for my niece 6 pieces of chalk, one 24-pack of crayons, a coloring book and a cloth wipe for cleaning off her chalk board.

You could do some kind of sew-on-snap if you wanted it to more securly close. I was in a rush and didn't figure that part out yet. If you have any ideas that would make this better, post here in this thread with your pics and ideas I would LOVE to see them. Happy sewing!

Interesting. I see them. They're linked from my album here, so maybe they'll show up later, or maybe refresh your page?

I can't see them either - here or in your SNS. I tried refreshing and changing my theme but no luck.
