She knits, she purls!

And that’s about it. But it does seem to be going faster than a couple weeks ago when I had serious doubts about whether I would ever manage to cast on properly.
My youngest plays hockey. I love to watch him because it’s easy to see how much he loves to be on the ice. However, hockey is a lot of time in a cold place. Reading a book doesn’t work very well, because I lose my place when I’m looking up to see how he’s doing. So, I thought it made sense to learn to knit.
Knitting is portable, that’s a plus. It doesn’t take up much space, another plus. Looks easy enough. (Looks are deceiving.)
I signed up for knitting class. Two weeks ago, I learned to cast on. Yesterday, we learned to knit. I managed to knit five rows in class. I had tried to do this myself after learning to cast on, but it didn’t go well. After a few rows, I had a lot more stitches than I had started with, so I decided it was best to take them all apart and wait for class.
Someone said purling is just like knitting, only on the other side. I found a tutorial on knitpicks.com that showed how to purl.
This is the back. (At least I think it’s the back.) We’re making a dishcloth.
At my current rate of speed, I might be able to make 3 dishcloths by Christmas. That’s one for my mom and one for each of my sisters. Hockey practice starts in a couple weeks. I hope they teach us how to get the dishcloth off the needle. I don’t think gifting dishcloths on sticks will be very impressive. Maybe I could say they are chopsticks with built in napkins?
What are you crafting these days?
