    McCalls pattern for split skirts-missized!

Bought pattern in misses size up to 12. Made the skirt, would not fit niece who is 8. She wears a 10/12 little girls. McCalls says the size is always true. My mother who is an avid seamstress of 70 plus years helped me make it and we used the correct seam allowances. I got a really smart alec reply from McCalls about we were the ones who messed it up. WRONG.

The did however offer me a free pattern of my choice. I don't need their patterns. I will buy another brand. If they really cared they would have been more considerate and helped me figure out what was wrong. I literally had to take out the side seams and add more fabric to them, they were cute but I should not have had to do that. I was making them for another niece who is only 10 but is heavy. She was so disappointed.

I hate doing that to a child and then to be told it was my fault when I followed the pattern to a T!!! Something is wrong there!!

What would you do and does anyone have a pattern for split skirts that runs true in a size 12 misses?

Sorry to hear that! I'm not sure what I would have done...i have given up on their patterns because they never fit!! My problem is the opposite though, that the sizes run bigger than they should. To me that's unacceptable either way, because it's discouraging for the seamstress...andin your case for your sweet niece! Good luck next time.

I like to use Ottobre, Jalie and Kwik Sew patterns instead...and so far haven't had a fit problem with any of the 3! Amazing huh! I am still getting used to things turning out great and fitting the first time.

I always hear this about those patterns. I try not to use them if I don't have to. Here's a link: http://www.sewingmamas.com/b/showthread.php?t=75278

The sizing is not the same as rtw, not even close. Did you use the measurements on the back of the package?

Oh yes, we used the size it called for in the measurements and it still came out badly. I am just so upset because it caused us to waste the material and the time it took to make them.

The only thing that surprises me is that it was too *small*...generally the sizing is off toward the ginormous end. So sorry!
