Interfacing
Fabrics used to support, reinforce and give shape to fashion fabrics in sewn products. Often placed between the lining and the outer fabric., it can be made from yarns or directly from fibers, and may be either woven, nonwoven, or knitted. Some interfacings are designed to be fused (adhered with heat from an iron), while others are meant to be sewn on.

Interlock
The stitch variation of the rib stitch, which resembles two separate 1 x 1 ribbed fabrics that are interknitted. Plain (double knit) interlock stitch fabrics are thicker, heavier, and more stable than single knit constructions.

jersey
a single knit fabric with a face side that is distinctly different from the back side.

Knit
Threads are knitted together to produce knit fabric, giving it stretch. There are many types of knit - jersey, interlock, and rib are the main ones.

Lettuce Edge
A rolled hem that has been stretched as it is fed into the machine giving it a wavy appearance.

Linen
Fabric woven from spun flax fibers.

Lining
A fabric that is used to cover the inside of a garment to provide a finished look. Lining fabric can consist of rayon, polyester or cotton.

Low Water Immersion Dyeing
A method of dyeing fabric that creates a shaded and/or multicolor crinkle effect. Use procion dyes and fix with soda ash.

lycra
Brand name of spandex. Spandex is a synthetic fiber used to make elastic fabrics.

This is a stretch yarn that has great rebound.
Lycra can stretch up to 5 times it's length With Full Recovery. It Enhances Fit and Recovery of Knit Or Woven Fabrics.

Mohair
Fiber from the Angora goat.

Munki Munki
Munki Munki is a boutique brand of children's clothing. They recently stopped producing children's clothing and the designer (Heather Ross) is going to be designing fabric for Free Spirit. Ross sold her remaining fabric stock of knits, poplins, and twills. Since these were the last of the munki prints avaible in knit, they are a very hot commodity.

Muslin
An inexpensive, medium weight, plain weave, low count (less than 160 threads per square inch) cotton sheeting fabric. In its unfinished form, it is commonly used in fashion design to make trial garments for preliminary fit.

Nap
A fuzzy, fur-like feel created when fiber ends extend from the basic fabric structure to the fabric surface. The fabric can be napped on either one or both sides.

Needle Felting
The meshing together of two fabrics by using a barbed needle punched through two natural fiber fabrics repeatedly. Most commonly seen using wool.
