Can anyone give me directions on how to make a fitted sheet for a baby mattress? I have a bassinet, so its one of those smaller thinner mattresses. I actually have 2 mattresses so I guess the sheet could fit them both together?

Help me please!

Thanks!

The way I did it was to measure the mattress, add a couple of inches to both width and length for the sides and seam allowance/casing and then cut a rectangle that size. I then cut squares out of each corner (small squares - just from sides and seam allowance/casing ).

Sew the corners - you'll be sewing two adjacent sides of the square together. Then make a narrow casing around the entire thing and insert 1/8 or 1/4" elastic.

i used this one:

but i did prewash the fabric so it wouldn't shrink at all.

i found this one after the fact and liked those instructions too:

this is what i've always used & it comes out perfect. :)

also, she has a equation for other sizes -

If you are sewing a sheet for a mattress of a different size, determine your yardage as follows:

length = mattress length + twice mattress depth + 8" width = mattress width + twice mattress depth + 8"

i used that to make a fitted sheet for DH's rack on the ship (navy). :)

here's one of the crib sheets i made out of sandi henderson's fabric from that -
