I have used this Kwik Sew pattern (http://www.kwiksew.com/Patterns/P2501_2550/2544.cfm) several times to copy the look of Lands End climber pants. I always use the faux fly instructions and back elastic wiastband (view A), and have sewn these as shorts in size 7 and 8 from cotton sportswear and ripstop nylon.

And I also did a pair of pants in size 8 from the black ripstop nylon for a client, but I don't have a picture of those (sorry!).

This pattern has WONDERFUL instructions on how to make the slash pockets, using a 1 piece pocket pattern instead of the typical 2 pieces. I love saving time like that. I actually make my own pants pockets using this method now! Their instructions for the faux fly and black elastic waist application are also fabulous. This pattern also has cargo pockets and belt loops. I skip the belt loops since my son doesn't wear belts, but the cargo pockets really add a lot. They suggest snaps for the closure there, but I much prefer aplix. Make sure you sew the aplix on to the top piece of the cargo pocket before you sew that piece to the pants though - way easier that way!

As far as fit, this are just a bit on the slim side. The pants I did in a size 8 for a client fit him perfectly without any alterations. He usually wears Lands End slim pants, regular pants are often much too big for him in the waist. The size 7s fit my son fine, he has an average build. But if you wanted a baggy or hip hop look, you will need to alter the pattern.

Overall, a fabulous boys pants/shorts pattern.
