Pattern for a tunic-length cowl-neck top with gathers at the sleeve hems and on one side, Euro sizes 34-42, published in the Burda magazine Sept. 2012. Link to pattern here. (http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/side-gather-top-092012)

I made this in a size 36 from a poly or viscose jersey, omitting the gathering. I just wanted it for its cowl-neck.

Once I figured out that I had accidentally traced (and cut, and started to sew!) the wrong piece for the back, I really like this top. The back neckline is finished with ribbon, which is a nice and tidy touch. The cowl is not too drapey, being an extension of the front piece. The neckline is a tad wide, but not so much that I wouldn't make this again.

The instructions have you sew the side seams and then set in the sleeves. I ignored that part, sewed sleeves to the body of the garment, then sewed up the side seams and sleeve seams in one go. I serged the raw edge of the front neckline to finish it, which is never specified in the instructions. You don't see the raw edge once the top is sewn up, but just to be tidy, I wanted it finished.

Overall, I am happy with the fit and the ease of the project. I would make the top again.

Recommended!
