I was checking out the DiaperSwappers.com (http://www.diaperswappers.c om/) new board and it's really great! Is there any way we can move to vBulletin board yet still keep our names and posts?

Because this phpbb is just a module, correct? Can't we have vBulletin be the module instead?

There is so much more versitility with vBulletin. Nathan, if I bought it, and you install it with PHPNuke intact?

I don't want to lose the FAQ's or Encyclopedia or anything, but make the forums easier would be great.

Thanks,
Meg

I'm not even sure if they are called BBS's anymore LOL.

They are called forums. I know their are converter to convert from phpbb to vbulletian. However, I don't know if their are any phpnuke modules to allow vbulletian as an integrated forum (I'm going to assume no, since phpnuke is gpl, and vb is commerical).

Actually, afaik their is not a lot of difference between phpbb and vb. Both vb and phpbb has a lot of different addons. Phpbb has more of them.

What features are you looking for?

Nathan.

I like the search function, you can search one word and it will come up with the most likely suspects. There is integrated chat, which we are still having problems with here.

I prefer the rating system, calendar, and feedback link in the profile. You can see mine here:

I was looking around and it looks like you can move it over but I'd have to investigate it more. I am having a hard time reading all the boards and trying to teach myself this stuff and momming LOL.

We are planning a trip to Disneyland, so I've also been using Mouseplanet.com which uses it as well.

I noticed you can also have a calendar (paid subscribers can add events), birthdays, countdown personalization in sig line.

Caledar, and birthdays are modules for phpbb. In fact the phpbb forums I install for the congo's have the calendar mod built in. :)

Countdown personalized sig? I'm not sure I follow you on that.

Search, is something broke again? It should be working properly. Rating, lots of rating mods for phpbb, including a points type where you can gain point for posting in certain forums, for playing games, purchase word changes, etc...

Take a look at the offically supported mods at: http://www.phpbb.com/mods/

Their is probably 1000 times as many "un-official" mods as official. :) My spell checker and integrated chat are not an "official" mods because I didn't jump through all the hoops they wanted me too. (Wasn't worth it to me :-)

But the offical mods, all are known to install easily with "EasyMod"

Also, check the PHP-Nuke site for modules for php-nuke. :-)

The countdown is on mouseplanet -- every paid member gets a countdown modification in their sig line.

phpbb doesn't support phpbb users using phpnuke. They won't answer any questions if they discover you have a nuke board. I get this terse reply:
"Those working with *Nuke Portals are ports and will not be supported here. "

If you have all those things, can I take a look at your board and see if it makes sense to switch over? The thing is, if we buy the invision stuff I can get it easier -- I don't know how to do mods which has been very frustrating. The chat, calendar etc. I've been asking for help for a long time and finally Heather bought a good chat module and installed it herself. I'm just not good at this stuff.

What is Easymod? It works with nuke php? I'll look it up later. I need to clean the kitchen and finish the laundry then I'll have some time.

So my answer is that it won't work with phpnuke?

Thanks nathan!

what php site are your referring to? the phpnuke.org site is a paid service I think, and most of those add ons are for gamers.

I have tried:
http://www.nukemods.com/
http://nukecops.com/

I would also like users to have the ability to changes themes on the fly.

Hmm, didn't realize EasyMod didn't work with php-nuke.

I think you will have the same issues with any forum software you have. IMO; phpbb is the largest (because it is free, it has the largest developer base working on it); but your problem is that phpnuke uses a heavily modified phpbb.

I'm sure you will have the same issues as the site you linked earlier; which is a heavliy modified vb board. None of the board programmers support third party mods -- and most the time it isn't easy to mod a heavily customized forum.

You can do one of several things.

1. One is ditch php-nuke;
a. go to just a phpbb forum and then use easymod to add any of the features you want. EasyMod to my knowledge is the easest method for adding mods.
b. go to invision or vb and use whatever system they have to add modules (might be manual, like it is now)

2. Keep php-nuke, and get php-nuke mods; however, as you have noticed is that modding is not easy (I suspect Invision and VB will have the same issues, and exspecially if you are using a nuked type vb board system like you linked to earlier)

3. Wait for PHPBB v3.0 (or use v3.0 Beta once released), if you want I've actually started playing with it; and it offers a lot of nifty features. (I can show it to you as I have it installed on one of my servers) However, new add-on's won't begin showing up for v3.0 until it is released officially and not in the Alpha/Beta stages. So, other than the neat features it offers now, you would have to be patient for new modules... It has a really neat search, including full text search, and has birthday calendar; attachements, Sub-Forums, etc...

Meg, what is the difference between nuke and phpbb? I can't remember why we went with nuke.

Allison, Nuke is the content manager. The FAQ's, modules etc. The PHPBB are the forums. But we can add modifications to make it more like nuke I guess. We are using both. phpbb within Nuke. We went with nuke because it's super easy to get up and going. But now that we want some mods like a calendar, chat, better searching etc. I'm not sure we're using the best availabe.

I could be totally wrong though, won't be the first time LOL.
