the pattern (otto 6/2007, betty pinafore), calls for invisible zipper but i dont have one on hand that is long enough and dont feel like making the drive to the store. so i use regular zipper and did a tute! if you are doing this with knit or any fabric with stretch, you have to interface the area where the zipper will be sewn. i am using corduroy.

1. prepare the pattern pieces and zipper. these are the back pieces. then serge/finish the raw edges of the back seam.

2. now with the back pieces right side together (not shown here), the teeny green marking on the pattern is where the zipper is suppose to end. sew normal stitch where the coral line is, backstitch, then continue on to sew basting stitch where the black line is.

3. then iron the seam open, you should then end up with something like this.

4. align the zipper, teeth side down to the middle of the joined seam. if you have wonder tape, you might want to tack the zipper down to the SA so it wont shift as you sew.

5. flip it to the right side and sew on the right side with a zipper foot. this is where it can get tricky, you should be able to feel the zipper teeth while you sew this on. when you reach the bottom, pivot, sew across the zipper, then sew the other side of the zipper.

6. once you are done, this is how it should like on the wrong side. the stitches are even b/c i was able to feel the zipper teeth as i sew the zipper on.

7. next rip the basting stitch, making sure you dont rip the *normal* stitch.

8. and you are done.

the *flap* around the fabric doesnt hinder the zipper from opening and closing properly.

hope this helps someone

I <3 this! It is exactly how I do it, except I use glue stick to tack it in place.
