made this for a friends dd, they are 8 and 9, they were a hit! i am going to make more for tween stocking stuffers :)
pattern pieces/notions required
outer piece - 9" X 6", cut 2 pieces
zipper tab - 3" x 2", cut 2 pieces
handle - 11.5" X 4", cut 1 piece
**interfacing for handle - 11.5" x 1.5"
7" zipper

** i made this with no lining, also i didnt need interfacing because this was medium weight canvas.

1. cut all the pattern pieces and lay them out.

2. serge/finish the top edges of the outer pieces, fold the zipper tab in half and serge both the side edges.

3.take one of the zipper tab, place the zipper teeth side down on the the tab about 0.5" from the edge and centre it. dont worry about the extra fabric. on the sides.

5. now align the zipper edge(teeth side) to the top serged edge of the outer piece(right side). dont worry about the excess tab fabric. with a zipper foot, sew the zipper on.

6. flip it and repeat for the other side.

7. this is how it should look like now, topstitch along the edges of the zipper, end to end.

8. i forgot to take pics on how to do the handles, but first i iron the piece into half, so i have 11.5" X 2" piece. then i fold it again into half and iron so i have a 11.5" x 1" strip. then i place it on the right side of the pouch, about 1" down from the zipper.

9. make sure the zipper is open before proceeding to this step, with the handle sandwiched between the 2 outer piece, i serge it all around to close the pouch.

ha ha, I should probably explain!

While I will totally jump in to something I've never done before, and have never seen in person -- the simple things sometimes scare me and I always make everything more complicated than it should be. I've been in fundraising for over 10 years and have been trained to think like a database, so not always the most logical way. I've never been able to wrap my head around a zippered pouch, so this was a real relief because I think they make great gifts. :o
